Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin hosted his Belarusian counterpart, Roman Golovchenko, in Moscow recently for discussions aimed at bolstering the already strong ties between their two nations.
Their talks covered a wide range of issues, including economic cooperation, security, and energy.
A major focus of the meeting was strengthening economic partnerships, especially in the industrial and aerospace sectors. The two leaders discussed a collaborative project between Belarus’s 558th Aircraft Repair Plant and Russia’s Ural Civil Aviation Plant, aimed at developing a new aircraft model. This move underscores the shared interest of both countries in advancing joint industrial projects and reducing dependence on external suppliers.
Trade between Belarus and Russia has grown considerably, with the two countries reaching a mutual trade turnover of $54 billion in 2022, a marked increase of $18 billion over the past five years. Both leaders expressed a strong commitment to continuing this positive trend and deepening their economic ties.
Energy cooperation also played a key role in the talks. The prime ministers discussed the ongoing oil and gas supply agreements, with an emphasis on resolving pricing issues. The energy partnership remains one of the cornerstones of the Belarus-Russia relationship, with both countries dependent on one another for key resources.
