Two members of the same family have died after being given a concoction by a traditional healer to help them stop drinking alcohol.
The incident occurred in the Kazima ward of Mpanda Municipality in Katavi region, where the young men were reported to have been excessive alcohol drinkers, causing a nuisance to their family and neighbors.
“Due to the situation, as a family, we convened and decided to find a solution to save them. We sought the first healer who prepared a concoction, but it was unsuccessful, and they continued drinking excessively,” said Justin Patrick, the nephew of the deceased.
“We kept searching until we found another healer who came and prepared another concoction for them. After they drank it, they suddenly died,” Patrick added.

Neighbors reported that the young men were constantly drinking alcohol, causing disturbances, and even stripping naked in public.
Flaviana John Kisalala, the chairperson of Kazima ward, confirmed the incident, stating that the cause of death was the concoction given by the healer to make them stop drinking.
“After arriving, the healer asked them to name the types of alcohol they consumed. They mentioned gongo, wanzuki, and komoni. The healer then mixed these drinks with traditional medicine and raw honey, heated the mixture, and gave it to them to drink.”
“After consuming the concoction, they vomited and gradually became weaker, leading to their deaths. So, this incident in my ward is indeed true,” Kisalala added.
The bodies of Paulo Razaro Malimba and Dismas Razaro Malimba have been laid to rest at the Kazima cemetery, while the healer responsible for the incident is reported to have disappeared without a trace
