Led by Mary Pius Chatanda (MCC) and Zainab Shomari (MNEC), the Tanzania Women’s Union (UWT) today, during the UWT General Council meeting, donated TSh 36,000,000.00 to aid three regions affected by floods and landslides: Mbeya, Iringa, and Arusha.
While handing over the donations, Chairperson Chatanda stated that UWT is committed to collaborating with the government to support communities affected by various disasters in the country.
In the past year, UWT has provided humanitarian aid to the regions of Morogoro and Coast for flood victims in Rufiji District and to the Manyara Region for landslide victims.

Chairperson Chatanda presented TSh 25,000,000 to the UWT leadership in Mbeya to purchase roofing sheets for houses affected by soil erosion in Itezi Ward, Mbeya City, as requested by Hon. Tulia Ackson, Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania.

She also donated TSh 5,000,000 to the UWT leadership in Iringa to support Maria Ngoda, a resident of Zizi la Ng’ombe, Iringa Municipality, whom UWT had previously helped appeal and win a case against a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted of possessing a bucket containing 12 pieces of impala meat illegally.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the three regions, the UWT chairpersons of Arusha, Mbeya, and Iringa praised the leadership of Chatanda and Shomari for quickly and effectively assisting communities affected by disasters.
“Your leadership has helped us build political support and made it easier for us to reach citizens with humanitarian aid,” said Zainabu Mwamwindi, UWT Chairperson of Iringa Region.
