Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has issued a stern warning to NATO and the United States, underscoring that Moscow will take all necessary measures to prevent what the West describes as a “strategic defeat” of Russia.
Speaking amid heightened tensions over the Ukraine conflict, Lavrov’s comments highlight the growing geopolitical stakes in a conflict that shows no signs of abating.
Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s dissatisfaction with NATO’s military and financial support to Ukraine, suggesting that such actions are not only prolonging the war but also increasing the risk of dangerous escalation. He described Western involvement as a deliberate attempt to undermine Russian sovereignty and security, calling their approach a “dangerous game.”
As advanced weapons systems, including long-range missiles, continue to be provided to Ukrainian forces, Lavrov cautioned that these developments could have serious global repercussions. He claimed that Moscow has no choice but to persist in its military operations until these perceived threats are neutralized.

Lavrov pointed to Ukraine’s refusal to negotiate, stating that President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decree banning talks with Moscow remains a key obstacle to peace. He also criticized past Western-backed agreements, such as the Istanbul framework of 2022, which aimed to address security concerns but fell apart due to shifting political dynamics.
Beyond the battlefield, Lavrov emphasized Russia’s pursuit of a multipolar world order, where regional alliances and cooperative frameworks take precedence over unilateral dominance. He highlighted partnerships with organizations like BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as pathways to a more equitable global system.
Lavrov’s remarks underscore Moscow’s broader grievances with Western policies, including NATO’s eastward expansion and support for Ukraine. While calling for the cessation of hostilities, Lavrov placed the onus on the West to change course, warning that continued escalation could lead to “dangerous consequences.”
