Today at the State House in Dar es Salaam, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan officiated the swearing-in of new ministers, including Mr. Jerry Silaa as Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology, and Mr. Ridhiwani Jakaya Kikwete as Minister of State for Labour, Youth, Employment, and People with Disabilities.
In her address, President Samia emphasized the crucial role of the media sector, urging Mr. Silaa to foster strong collaborations with media stakeholders to enhance press freedom and address sector challenges. “Media is a cornerstone of our democracy and development,” she remarked. “It is essential that we ensure its freedom and integrity, and that all stakeholders work together to support its growth and accountability.”
President Samia also praised Mr. Silaa for his previous contributions as Minister of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements, noting the success of land clinics he implemented, which effectively addressed land-related issues. “The land clinics were an exemplary model of how land issues can be resolved,” she stated.
In her comments to Mr. Balozi Thabit Kombo, the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, President Samia highlighted the pivotal role his ministry will play in shaping the country’s image. “You are at the heart of the government, at the door, eyes, and ears of the administration. The country’s image will reflect through your ministry. Ensure you study the instruments of your ministry thoroughly. I have appointed two assistants for you, and all of you are familiar faces in the ministry,” she advised.
