The case of the Nine suspects accused of murdering Asimwe Novart, a person with albinism, was brought before the Resident Magistrate’s Court in Bukoba.
Asimwe was abducted from his home in Kamachumu on May 30, 2024, and his mutilated body was later found in a latrine on June 17, 2024.

The state prosecutor, Erick Mabagala, informed the court that the case is still in the process of being registered with the High Court, which has jurisdiction over the matter. The nine suspects are facing charges of premeditated murder, and the investigation file has been completed.
During the hearing, some of the suspects were seen shedding tears in court. The Resident Magistrate, Elipokea Yona Wilson, stated that the current court lacks the authority to hear the case and has remanded the accused in custody until July 26, 2024, when the case will be mentioned again after the completion of the case file.
The accused individuals include Elpidius Alfred Rwegoshora, a priest, Novat Venant (Asimwe’s father), Nurdin Ahmada, Ramadhan Selestine, Rwenyagira Alphonce, Dastan Buchard, Faswiu Athuman, Gozibert Arikad, and Dezdery Everigist. Elpidius Rwegoshora, the first accused, has already retained a defense lawyer, Mathias Rweyemamu.
