Due to this debate, the Spokesperson for the Tanzanian Police Force, David Misime, issued a statement to the public yesterday, Friday, April 26, 2024, regarding the incident, starting by saying: “Firstly, the Police Force says this is a sad and unfortunate incident because we have lost a fellow Tanzanian in this accident.”
In the statement, Misime said the incident was reported at 10:12 in the morning that there was an accident at the Mbezi Makonde area. After receiving the report, officers and police who were on duty at the Shangwe la Utawala Festival, which was taking place at the Tanganyika Packers area, left with a police vehicle to the scene.
He said upon arrival, they retrieved the body and took it to the Mwananyamala Referral Hospital for further legal procedures.
Misime stated that upon investigation, it was found that the deceased had been involved in an accident with the motorcycle bearing registration number MC 436 CMU, which was being ridden by a driver who sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
“Therefore, after the report of the incident was issued and received, police officers arrived at the scene in a timely manner and carried out what needed to be done at the accident scene.
We thank the motorcycle taxi riders in that area who showed humanity by preventing vehicles from running over the deceased,” said part of the statement signed by Misime, clarifying that:
“If there is anyone with different and genuine information, they should bring it to the attention of the authorities so that it can be investigated and appropriate action taken
