A pregnant woman Chuki Hassan residing in Kidubwa Village, Mkuranga District, has tragically lost her life after being struck by a lorry while traveling on a bodaboda (motorcycle taxi) to the district hospital for childbirth. In a twist of fate, her baby survived the ordeal, having been found alive after the mother’s abdomen ruptured during the accident.
Dr. Alberto Adolph, the Officer in Charge at St. Vincent Health Center in Vikindu, confirmed that the newborn has received immediate medical care and is currently in stable condition. The infant has since been taken into the care of relatives.
Local news outlet ITV visited the grieving family, where they found the newborn being cared for by Chuki’s sister-in-law, Fatuma Hassan. Fatuma has made a heartfelt appeal to the community and compassionate individuals to assist with the baby’s needs, particularly requesting support for formula milk, as her financial circumstances are challenging.
