Tanzanian Minister Silaa Addresses Citizens’ Concerns in Makuro

"We are all human beings here, and here in Makuro (Singida), you are witnesses. A guest once came here, and you welcomed him; he pretended to be a medical expert (a healer).

The work done by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan (President of the United Republic of Tanzania) has left even the opposition with nothing to say; if anyone here knows of any policy mentioned, please tell me now.

People are being abducted, people are going missing, and I would like to thank the Honorable Speaker (Speaker of the Tanzanian Parliament, Dr. Tulia Ackson).

In Parliament, one opposition member stood up and asked during the Prime Minister’s question time about the government’s actions regarding the issue of missing and abducted persons.

The Speaker responded that we should not speak in Parliament out of emotion. Before you say someone is missing or has been abducted, you must know what has happened.

“We are all human beings here, and here in Makuro (Singida), you are witnesses. A guest once came here, and you welcomed him; he pretended to be a medical expert (a healer).

People came here seeking treatment and ended up being killed and buried. What do their families say about it? Or you here in Makuro, when you go to a healer, do you say goodbye? Have you seen the stars dimming? Have you noticed that business is not flourishing? Have you noticed that love at home is absent? When you go to a healer, do you say goodbye? You come to Makuro, visit a healer, and the result is death. You have been buried.

What do the families of those who were buried here in Makuro say? They say our relatives are missing, and those who believe in the opposition say our relatives have been abducted. Who do we abduct? This country is one of the most peaceful and secure in the world. Our police force is one of the most competent and professional in our nation. Therefore, if you see your relative is missing, report it to the police station.

As Tanzanians, living in a country where we know we have a hardworking president who has accomplished great things, we must recognize that some people will have nothing to say; they will seek agendas to latch onto. Our country is safe—Silaa.”

This was said by the Minister of Information, Communication, and Information Technology, Jerry William Silaa, during a public meeting to listen to citizens’ concerns, held recently in the village of Makuro, located in Makuro Ward, Singida District, Singida Region.
