Security officers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have raided and searched properties belonging to former President Joseph Kabila.
The incident occurred shortly after Kabila announced his intention to return to the country via the conflict-ridden eastern region. The announcement has raised tensions amid ongoing violence in that part of the country.
According to a statement released by Kabila’s family on Thursday evening, security forces arrived at the former president’s Kingakati farm, located approximately 80 kilometers from the capital Kinshasa. The officers informed the property’s caretaker that the search was part of a routine operation. They also conducted a separate search at Kabila’s residence in Kinshasa.

A family spokesperson stated that the officers claimed to be looking for “missing or stolen military equipment,” but nothing was found during the searches.
Current President Félix Tshisekedi has accused Kabila of allegedly plotting to overthrow the government and supporting the M23 rebel group, which is engaged in conflict with government forces in eastern Congo.
This development adds to the growing political and security tensions as the country prepares for further political shifts.
