The Regional Administrative Secretary of Morogoro Region, Dr. Mussa Ali Mussa, has urged Internal Auditors in the region to be relentless in their work, especially when inspecting finances and development projects in their areas as they are the eyes of the Government.
Dr. Mussa made these remarks on March 1, 2024, while closing the Internal Auditors’ Workshop for all Councils in Morogoro Region held at the conference hall of the Regional Commissioner’s Office.
The Secretary explained that Internal Auditors, particularly in the Councils, have been turning a blind eye to financial mismanagement occurring within the Councils, noting that this situation leads to development projects being implemented below standard or not completed on time.
For this reason, Dr. Mussa has instructed these officials not to be hesitant when it comes to overseeing revenue collection through Point of Sale (PoS) machines and to report to relevant authorities, including the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), upon identifying signs of financial embezzlement or project equipment theft.
“…in our work performance, we are ashamed, we find it difficult to fulfill our assigned duties, and ultimately things go wrong…”
Furthermore, he has urged the Auditors to ensure that collected funds are deposited in banks to prevent potential theft.
In another instance, Dr. Mussa emphasized to the Auditors the need to cultivate a culture of inspecting development projects to verify the use of funds and the quality of projects being implemented in their Councils, as doing so will help enhance the quality and value of the projects funded.
Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary in charge of Management, Monitoring, and Inspection, Ms. Neema Dachi, stated that the workshop aimed to remind Internal Auditors of their core responsibilities, including assisting District Commissioners and Directors in auditing finances and development projects.
