Tanzania is set to host its first-ever National Health Week, an event aimed at celebrating progress in the health sector, addressing existing challenges, and strategizing on how to improve healthcare services for all citizens.
Scheduled to take place from April 3 to 8, 2025, the event will be held in different regions across the country. According to an official statement released in Dodoma, Health Minister Jenista Mhagama announced that this year’s celebrations will be held under the theme: “Our Journey: Building a Healthier Nation.”
“This is an opportunity to reflect on where we have come from, where we are, and where we are headed in terms of healthcare services. We want to build a stronger nation with a healthier population,” Mhagama said in the statement.
Throughout the week, various activities will take place, including a scientific symposium where health experts will discuss key issues in the sector.

There will also be public fitness walks to encourage exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, as well as free medical check-ups to promote early detection of diseases.
The initiative is expected to bring together medical professionals, policymakers, and citizens to exchange ideas and share experiences. The goal is to raise public awareness about health matters, encourage people to take better care of their well-being, and strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.
With this being the first time the country is holding National Health Week, officials hope it will set a foundation for a long-term tradition that will help shape the future of Tanzania’s healthcare system.
