Security has been ramped up at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam as Chadema prepares for its crucial General Meeting elections.

The party will elect its new chairperson and vice-chairpersons for both the mainland and Zanzibar.

The operation is being led by Dar es Salaam’s Special Zone Police Commander, Jumanne Muliro, and Kinondoni Regional Police Commander, Mtatiro Kitinkwi. Their presence reflects the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the elections proceed smoothly and without disruption.

To maintain order and safety, police forces have been stationed both inside and around the venue. Over 10 police vehicles are stationed outside Mlimani City Hall, with the two commanders keeping a watchful eye from about 100 meters away, close to where Chadema supporters have gathered.

The heightened police presence highlights the importance of keeping the peace during this pivotal event. The tight security measures aim to protect both party members and attendees as they go about electing their new leadership.

One of the top candidates for chairperson, Mr. Tundu Lissu, arrived early at the venue, at around 10:15 a.m. He drove up in his black Land Cruiser, greeted by a lively crowd of supporters who cheered, waved banners, and chanted his name, “Lissu! Lissu!” The excitement was palpable, and his supporters, full of energy, helped guide his vehicle to the parking area before he made his way inside the hall.
