The High Court of Dar es Salaam has ordered the defendant Hamisi Luongo, accused of killing his wife and burning her body using a whole sack of charcoal, to undergo a mental health assessment.
Initially, before the court issued this order, the defendant opposed the prosecution’s request for the assessment, claiming he was not willing to undergo it because he is of sound mind and has no history of mental health problems.
He told the court that he was surprised to be charged with the murder of his wife, who he claimed is alive, although he did not disclose her whereabouts.

When detained by the Police, he was accused of killing his wife, burning her body using a whole sack of charcoal, and then burying the ashes in a farm and planting a banana tree over the grave.
