The Minister of Education, Science and Technology Prof. Adolf Mkenda, has officially closed the first Education Conference of the East African Community and the celebration of the year of education of the African Union held in Arusha.
Addressing the event, Prof. Mkenda urged member countries to develop a work plan that demonstrates the best way to implement the resolutions from the meeting to ensure full implementation.
He also emphasized the need to celebrate all achievements made during the AU education anniversary and reflect on how to improve education systems for young people so that the outcomes of the meeting can be seen at the next meeting in two years.

The Chairman of the Sectoral Council and Minister of Education and Training of South Sudan, Hon. Awut Deng Achuil, urged for action to ensure the goals and resolutions of the meeting are put into practice. He commended Tanzania for hosting the event, as well as the EAC Secretariat and member countries for organizing it successfully.
The first-ever meeting of this kind in the East African region brought together various education stakeholders from both the government and private sector. The convening of the meeting is in line with decisions from the 15th Meeting of the Sectoral Council of the East African Community for Education, Science and Technology, Culture and Sports; and the African Union.

The education and celebration gathering brought together Education Ministers from EAC Member States, distinguished guests including representatives from various countries like China, Heads of Regional and International Organizations and Institutions involved in education sector development such as the European Union (EU), African Union (AU), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), African Educational Development Agency (ADEA), Institute for Right to Education, and German Development Agency (GIZ).
The meeting also saw participation from over 600 education stakeholders from Member States, educational institutions, NGOs, private sector, international organizations, and civil society organizations. They came together to assess and share experiences on the best practices for advancing the education sector. The event was organized by the East African Community Secretariat in partnership with member countries, NGOs, development partners, and educational institutions within the EAC .
