The Hidaya Cyclone has affected candidates for the National Examinations (NECTA) for Form Six and Certificate and Diploma in Teaching levels, as NECTA has announced the start of Form Six and teaching exams, with the Hidaya Cyclone affecting one of the schools in Lindi region, forcing candidates to not take the exam at that center.

Dr. Mohamed mentioned that the school affected by the Hidaya Cyclone is Kilwa.
“Due to the Cyclone (Hidaya), we have received reports of the impact on one primary school, which, however, does not relate to the starting exams tomorrow (today),” he said.
Dr. Mohamed stated that the Form Six exams will be held in 931 secondary schools and 258 independent candidate centers, while teaching exams will be conducted in 99 teacher training colleges.
“A total of 113,504 candidates have registered to sit for the Form Six exams in 2024, among them, 104,449 are school candidates and 9,055 are independent candidates,” he said.
He mentioned that among the registered school candidates, there are 57,378 boys, accounting for 54.9%, and 47,071 girls, accounting for 45.1%.
Dr. Mohamed added that there are 232 candidates with special needs, including 201 with visual impairment, 16 blind candidates, and 15 with physical disabilities.
He noted that among the 9,055 independent candidates, there are 5,515 boys, representing 60.91%, and 3,540 girls, representing 39.09%.
Regarding candidates with special needs among independent candidates, there are three, all of whom have visual impairment.
“In 2023, the number of registered school and independent candidates was 106,883, thus there is an increase of 6,621 candidates, which is 6.19% for 2024 compared to 2023,” said Dr. Mohamed.
Regarding teaching exams, Dr. Mohamed mentioned that 11,552 candidates have registered, including 2,766 diploma level candidates and 8,786 certificate level candidates.
He stated that among the diploma level candidates, 1,634 are males, accounting for 59.07%, and 1,132 are females, accounting for 40.93%.
Additionally, among the certificate level candidates, 3,969 are males, representing 45.17%, and 4,817 are females, representing 54.83%.

Dr. Mohamed mentioned that last year, the number of registered teaching candidates was 8,479, and there is an increase of 3,073 candidates, which is 36.24% for 2024 compared to 2023.
He emphasized that despite all necessary preparations made, regional and council examination committees must ensure that the security of the examination centers is strengthened.
“The Council calls on all appointed supervisors to perform their duties with professionalism and the highest integrity. They should adhere to examination rules and procedures, as well as the guidelines provided by the Council to ensure that every candidate gets their fair share,” he said.
Furthermore, Dr. Mohamed urged school heads to fulfill their management responsibilities by following the management guidelines provided by NECTA and avoiding interference in the examination supervision within the examination rooms.
Likewise, NECTA advises school owners to recognize that their schools are special examination centers and therefore should not interfere with the duties of examination supervisors throughout the examination period.
He stated that the Council will take action against anyone found involved in or causing fraud according to the law.
