Tanzania and Comoro Islands have signed four Memorandums of Understanding at the summit of the First Meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission (JPC) between Tanzania and Comoros held on July 24, 2024 in Dar es Salaam.
This documents signed include the fields of; Diplomatic Cooperation, Health, Trade and Industry and Information Technology.

The documents has been witnessed by the Minister of Defense and the Nation Building Force Hon. Dr. Stergomena Tax and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Comoros dealing with Arab Countries, French-speaking Countries, Diaspora and African Integration Hon. Mohamed Mbae.
While Speaking at the opening of the historic meeting, the Tax Minister has explained the importance of the signing of the documents that will enable the two parties to have a well-organized cooperation in the respective fields and thus bring more productivity.
Along with signing the Memorandum of Understanding, we have also agreed to continue cooperating in many other areas including infrastructure, energy, defense and security, blue economy, tourism, culture, arts and sports and youth development. He explained Dr. Tax
Hon.Mbae has expressed his satisfaction with the holding of the JPC meeting and added that the meeting is an important link in continuing to develop and strengthen the relationship between Tanzania and Comoros.
He has congratulated Tanzania for organizing the meeting and thus showing Tanzania’s sincere commitment to continue cooperating with Comoros.
In addition to the signing of the documents, the Ministers are satisfied with the progress made in the implementation of the various agreements and decisions reached together between the two parties since the signing of the General Partnership Agreement in 2009.
Also, the meeting has discussed and set strategies on how to continue promoting business between the two parties. These strategies, among other things, will aim to encourage the private sector to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries and to take advantage of the commercial opportunities that exist and those arising from the African Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the SADC Free Trade Area.
Speaking about the meeting, the Ambassador of Tanzania in Comoros Hon. Saidi Yakubu has explained that Comoro is an important partner of Tanzania in business, where in 2023 Tanzania sold in the country products worth 148 billion shillings.
He added that the agreement reached in the meeting will not only increase diplomatic cooperation but is expected to increase the amount of goods that Tanzania imports into the country.
In the meeting, the Tanzanian delegation has included experts and executives from various sectors and has been led by the Minister of Defense and the National Army Hon. Dr. Stergomena Tax, who also led the meeting in collaboration with the co-chairman, Minister Mbae of Comoros.
