The Minister of Minerals, Honorable Anthony Mavunde, today, October 24, 2024, held discussions with the Ambassador of Belarus to Tanzania, Honorable Pavel Vziatkin.
The meeting aimed to reinforce economic diplomacy between Belarus and Tanzania, focusing on exploring opportunities in Tanzania’s mining sector.
Ambassador Pavel highlighted that the purpose of his visit was to deepen the understanding of the investment prospects available in Tanzania’s mining industry and to showcase Belarus’s advancements in technology and the manufacturing of robust machinery suitable for mining operations.
Welcoming Ambassador Pavel, Minister Mavunde noted that Tanzania is rich in a variety of minerals, including metals, gemstones, and strategic minerals. He emphasized the numerous investment opportunities available for Belarusian investors looking to enter Tanzania’s mining sector.
Minister Mavunde referenced the philosophy of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which promotes an attractive investment environment through the “4R” framework. This approach has led to an influx of investors into the country, and he encouraged Belarusian investors to seize these opportunities.
Moreover, Minister Mavunde informed Ambassador Pavel about Tanzania’s ban on the export of raw minerals, presenting a unique opportunity for investors to establish processing industries within the country. This initiative is aimed at adding value to minerals locally, rather than exporting them in their raw form.
He further explained that Tanzania has large-scale miners employing modern technologies, as well as small-scale miners still relying on outdated tools. He urged Ambassador Pavel to consider the feasibility of producing affordable machinery that would streamline operations for small-scale miners, who play a significant role in the nation’s economy.
