Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development, Hon. Geophrey Pinda, has urged Tanzanians to immediately stop selling open spaces to preserve land for emergency use and alternative needs.
Hon. Pinda made these remarks during a meeting with citizens and Lands Ministry staff in Kilimanjaro Region, held on September 19, 2024, at the regional conference hall.
He emphasized that open spaces greatly benefit communities, providing essential services during emergencies, such as the construction of health centers, business areas, and educational facilities.
“These open spaces, I urge my fellow Tanzanians, should continue to be utilized under the Director’s permits. Where will we conduct small businesses if we sell them? If we sell them, where will our children and grandchildren do business? Let’s join together and not sell open spaces,” said Hon. Pinda.
The Deputy Minister also commended the Moshi Municipal Council for their firm stance against the sale of open spaces.
“I thank the honorable councilors for their strong stance. They have stood firm in preventing the sale of some areas, like the garage site,” added Hon. Pinda.

Additionally, Hon. Pinda warned unscrupulous land officers involved in issuing duplicate land plots and stressed that the ministry would take strict disciplinary action against any staff who violate the code of conduct.
“If any of our officers are involved in the double allocation of land plots, we will take immediate and severe action,” said the Deputy Minister.
Hon. Pinda is on an official tour in Kilimanjaro, where he will address land issues for the region’s citizens and hold working sessions with Lands Ministry staff.
