On a quest to etch her name in the annals of the Guinness World Record, singer Afua Asantewaa Aduonum a young Ghanaian woman,has embarked on a marathon sing-a-thon with the mission to break the longest singing marathon of 105 hours.
The current record, held by Indian Sunil Waghmare, stands at 105 hours of continuous singing, a feat that Aduonum is determined to surpass. With the support of prominent Ghanaian celebrities and high-ranking officials, including the Vice President of Ghana, Former President Mahama, she launched her official attempt on December 24, 2023 to December 27th, 2023.
Afua Asantewaa, is on her fourth day of attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest Sing-A-Thon. She has some 24 hours left to break the existing record and her tenacity is worth celebrating. Her effort has brought global attention to Ghana and a chance to showcase the strength, agency, and industry of Ghanaian women.
Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa is expected to break the longest singing marathon by an individual, which lasted 105 hours.
According to her, this is a fine opportunity to sell amazing Ghanaian music to the world.
Afua has promised to perform strictly local music throughout her record-breaking attempt.
The event is expected to attract thousands of music lovers and well-wishers to Akwaaba Village in solidarity for their compatriots and to also be part of history-making.
Miss Asantewaa said that among other things, she is required to film all the practice and preparations she is making, including interviews, and add to the actual attempt video as part of the evidence.
For the attempt itself, the young lady says she is allowed to sit, stand, and lie down as long as she is singing; it does not matter. Unlike music shows, Miss Asantewaa said that she cannot jam to the songs like musicians do; she cannot hum the songs, and there will be no drumming either. She can also talk in between songs.
The event has more than just the makings of a new world record. It is a celebration of Ghanaian culture, a grand spectacle of music, and the power of human endurance. The participation of figures such as Prophet Nigel Gaisie and Akuapem Poloo, along with the backing of renowned celebrities such as Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Becca, has only amplified the event’s prominence.
