Minister of Information, Communication, and Information Technology, Nape Nnauye, today took his turn to present the budget statement of his ministry for the fiscal year 2024/2025 in Parliament in Dodoma.
Nape has asked Parliament to approve a budget of Sh180.9 billion for his ministry.
According to the minister average call rates within the network without a bundle have decreased from Shillings 29.0 in June 2023 to Shillings 26.00 in April 2024, while rates outside the network dropped from Shillings 31.0 to Shillings 28.00 in the same period. Data costs, with and without bundles, have also seen a continuous decline.

He disclosed that data costs within bundles slightly decreased to Shillings 2.17 per Megabyte in April 2024 from Shillings 2.25 per Megabyte in June 2023. Domain registrations increased to 30,090 in April 2024 from 28,076 in June 2023, marking a 7.2 percent rise.
Nnauye highlighted the growth in the communication sector, with registered mobile phone lines increasing from 62.3 million in April 2023 to 72.5 million in April 2024, representing a 16.4 percent growth.
Additionally, internet users according him ,grew from 33.1 million in April 2023 to 36.8 million in April 2024 (an 11.2 percent increase), while mobile money transfer service users rose from 44.3 million to 53.0 million during the same period, showing a growth of 19.6 percent.
Nape further hinted that the number of Telecommunications Infrastructure Service Providers increased to 25 from 23 in April 2023 (an 8.7 percent rise). Additional service providers (Application Services and Value-Added Services) decreased to 135 from 141 in April 2023, marking a decline of 4.4 percent.
