Arusha Regional Commissioner Paul Christian Makonda and the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (TAKUKURU), Chrispin Francis Chalamila, have pledged to intensify efforts against corruption in the Arusha region.
This commitment follows a meeting between the two officials on September 13, 2024, aimed at strengthening the fight against corrupt practices, particularly in the land sector, which has been identified as a major issue in the region.
During the meeting, Makonda highlighted the critical role of the land sector in corruption cases and promised to collaborate closely with TAKUKURU to ensure that corruption does not hinder the residents of Arusha from receiving their rightful entitlements. He stressed the need for transparency and fairness, underscoring his dedication to ensuring that no one is deprived of their rights or feels that corruption is an inevitable part of achieving their goals.
Makonda asserted, “We will ensure that nothing obstructs the youth from performing their duties effectively. Our goal is justice; no one should be exploited, and people should not live with the belief that without corruption, they cannot achieve their objectives. We wish for our region to be governed by righteousness, with justice as the foundation for everyone.”
In response, Chalamila assured that TAKUKURU would increase its presence in Arusha by deploying additional officers before November 2024. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the anti-corruption drive in line with Makonda’s request made earlier in May 2024.

Chalamila also urged Makonda to oversee the upcoming local government elections later this year. He emphasized that electing competent and corruption-free leaders is crucial for accelerating the region’s development and ensuring that governance is not tainted by corrupt practices.
This collaborative effort between Makonda and TAKUKURU is expected to set a precedent in the fight against corruption in Tanzania, reinforcing the commitment of both local and national authorities to uphold integrity and justice.
