The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel, announced a modification in the method of covering health insurance fees for children via the Toto Afya Kadi (Child Health Card).
The new approach involves integrating the payment process into the school system and incorporating it into the inclusive health insurance plans of Najali, Wekeza, and Timiza, allowing parents to register their children accordingly.
Dr. Mollel disclosed this in Dodoma while responding to parliamentary queries during the 12th session of the 15th meeting, sitting 34.
He stated that the implementation of the National Health Insurance Act for all will make it easier for various groups of citizens, including children, to access healthcare services without obstacles.
“I urge the accredited medical practitioners in referral hospitals across the country to ensure they receive children from the areas where the hospitals are located and provide them with services,” Dr. Mollel appealed.
Dr. Mollel explained that the government has allocated 5 billion shillings for the completion of the Mother and Child Building, the Children’s Ward, and the Men’s Ward at the Katavi Regional Referral Hospital, which has two parallel sections, A and B. The A section has been completed by 98% and is already in use for outpatient services and radiology, while the B section has reached 20% completion and construction is ongoing.

Dr. Mollel has urged Members of Parliament and Tanzanians to continue the culture of handwashing to continue taking precautions against various diseases.
This campaign was launched on 9th May 2024 by the Honorable Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango, the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, and its implementation will enable the control of communicable diseases in the community.
