President Akufo-Addo’s long-serving driver, Dr Gerald Joseph Addo, has clinched the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidacy for the La Dadekotopon constituency.
He secured 664 votes, surpassing his rival, Solomon Kotey Niikio, who got 555 votes.
The NPP’s National Executive Committee approved a primary in La Dadekotopon after the resignation of Dr. Joseph Tetteh, the elected parliamentary candidate, citing personal reasons.

The newly Elected Parliamentary Candidate Joseph Addo contested with the area Municipal Chief Executive, Solomon Kotey Niiko after the elected Parliamentary Candidate, Dr. Gerald Joseph Tetteh resigned for personal reasons.
Interestingly, during the counting of the ballot papers, the MCE when he detected that he had lost the polls, stood up from his seat and left the election grounds with some of his supporters, while the winning candidate and his supporters were jubilating.
With over two decades of service as President Akufo-Addo’s driver, Addo expressed his willingness to represent the constituency. Addo recently donated an office complex on Ako Adjei Road, addressing the party’s lack of a permanent office space and the need for executives to operate from rented premises.
During the donation, the President’s driver highlighted his dedication to helping the NPP reclaim the La Dadekotopon seat from the NDC.
In h his acceptance speech, he thanked party members for their confidence in electing him as the new parliamentary candidate to lead them into the 2024 elections.
He vowed to unify the party and called on all supporters of his rival to join forces, work diligently, and secure more votes to help Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia become the next President of Ghana.
In the 2020 election, the ruling NPP lost the La Dedekotopon seat to the incumbent NDC MP, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.
Party members praised his gesture as a testament to his commitment to the party’s goals. The NPP’s defeat in the La Dadekotopon seat to the NDC’s Rita Naa Odoley Sowah in the 2020 election fueled their determination to win it back in the upcoming polls.
