The Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Tulia Ackson, has called on the Ministry of Health to explore ways to assist economically disadvantaged students in affording the costs of medical treatment. She urged the Ministry to consider a similar arrangement to the one used to provide healthcare services to home-schooled students.
Tulia made these remarks while the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel, was responding to a question regarding the reintroduction of first aid services in various schools across the country. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing the health of students and ensuring they receive medical treatment when they fall ill.
“It is crucial for the Ministry of Health to examine how we can assist students who lack the financial means to access medical treatment when needed,” said Tulia. “We are aware that there is a program in place to cater to home-schooled students, and it would be appropriate to have a similar arrangement for students in schools to ensure that no student is left behind.”
Tulia also stressed the importance of reinstating first aid services in schools nationwide. She stated that the presence of these services would help provide initial assistance to students who become ill or encounter health problems while at school.

He emphasized that the government recognizes the importance of students’ health and will take appropriate measures to ensure they receive proper healthcare services.
The Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, who was also present in Parliament, expressed the ministry’s commitment to collaborate with the Ministry of Health to ensure that students receive necessary medical services when needed. He stated that health is a right of every student, and the government will work closely with other stakeholders to improve access to these services.
Tulia’s call has been positively received by her fellow Members of Parliament, who have expressed their support for efforts to ensure that economically disadvantaged students receive medical services. They expect to see concrete steps taken to enable access to medical treatment for economically disadvantaged students in various schools across the country.
Currently, the public eagerly awaits to hear the actions that will be taken by the Ministry of Health to ensure that all students receive the necessary medical services and remove the economic barriers that may deny them the opportunity to access appropriate medical treatment.
