The Mara Regional Police have arrested three individuals who were found in possession of 857 counterfeit banknotes with a total value of TZS 7 million.
The police also confiscated a computer and a machine used for printing the fake money.
According to ACP Salim Morcase, the Mara Regional Police Commander, the suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Atanas (27), Samson Nyamwela, and Frank Mambo. All three individuals are employed as technicians at the Referral Hospital in Tabora Region. During the operation, the police discovered 753 counterfeit banknotes of TZS 10,000 and 104 notes of TZS 2,000. The IT technician from the Referral Hospital was also found with a computer and a printer, which were allegedly used to produce the counterfeit currency.

The suspects were apprehended at the Tarakea Guest House in Rutinginga, Musoma Municipality. Emmanuel is reported to be a resident of Morogoro, while Jovin is from Nyamakokoto in Bunda District. The guest house was identified as the location where the counterfeit operation was being conducted.
This incident highlights the ongoing battle against financial fraud and counterfeit currency in Tanzania. The authorities are actively investigating to determine if there are additional networks or accomplices involved in the counterfeit scheme.
