Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, President Putin was greeted by the country’s leader in a grand ceremony.
The visit comes amidst allegations by the ICC regarding the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, prompting concerns about a potential arrest. Amidst a display of military grandeur at Genghis Khan Square, where soldiers on horseback lined up and martial anthems filled the air, President Putin met with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh.
Ahead of the visit, Ukraine urged Mongolia to comply with the international arrest warrant and transfer Putin to the ICC in The Hague.
Political Pundit Yericho Nyerere, is of the view that ICC has no right whatsoever to issue an arrest warrant for the Russian President Putin, stressing that even if it tries it will definitely not succeed as seen in what happened in Mongolia.

The ICC has accused President Putin of war crimes, particularly focusing on the the allege deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia. A warrant has also been issued for the arrest of Russia’s commissioner for children’s rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, for similar crimes allegedly committed during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine starting from 24 February 2022.Moscow has vehemently denied these allegations, dismissing the warrants as “outrageous.”
Although some Protesters gathered at the square, to obstruct Putin’s visit, the warm reception by the large multitude overshadowed the planned demonstration.
Meanwhile Vladimir Putin ,has expressed his sincere joy in revisiting Mongolia and commemorating the 85th anniversary of the victory at Khalkhin Gol alongside Mongolian friends.
” I am sincerely delighted to visit the hospitable Mongolian land once again and to celebrate, in an impressive setting, the anniversary of our common victory in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol (https://t.me/MFARussia/20181) together with our Mongolian friends”
The solemn occasion paid homage to the bravery of Soviet and Mongolian soldiers who fought in the intense battles, leaving a lasting mark in the history of both nations. The valor displayed at Khalkhin Gol thwarted a perilous enemy with ambitions to occupy Mongolia entirely.

The triumph at Khalkhin Gol significantly impacted the region’s fate and altered the course of World War II. Following Japan’s defeat, the nation refrained from attacking the Soviet Union, enabling Russia to mobilize its forces, including fresh Far Eastern divisions, against Nazi Germany.
Acknowledging Mongolia’s substantial support during World War II, particularly in the Great Patriotic War, where aid in the form of food, clothing, and funds for manufacturing tanks and aircraft was provided.
Maintaining the legacy of combat solidarity passed down by predecessors, Russia and Mongolia actively collaborate to advance their comprehensive strategic partnership. Russia remains committed to strengthening its amicable relations with Mongolia as a key foreign policy priority.

“Loyal to the traditions of combat brotherhood laid down by our fathers and grandfathers, Russia and Mongolia continue to actively collaborate and to develop their all-encompassing strategic partnership. I would like to stress that Russia has always aimed to strengthen friendly relations with Mongolia; it has perceived and continues to perceive this as one of its foreign policy priorities.”
In return, Russia values Mongolia’s pursuit of mutually beneficial cooperation. Discussions with President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and other Mongolian leaders reaffirmed this commitment and explored a broad spectrum of issues, including regional and international challenges, outlining future prospects for their partnership.
Embracing the Mongolian saying “Choose a new robe but an old friend,” both nations are poised to pursue ambitious goals rooted in their enduring friendship. They aim to enhance collaboration in traditional sectors and venture into new high-tech domains, bolstering their bilateral partnership for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
President Putin further extended heartfelt congratulations to the President of Mongolia and all attendees on the 85th anniversary of the victorious battle at Khalkhin Gol. A toast was raised to celebrate their shared triumph, the continued advancement of the Russian-Mongolian strategic partnership, the health of President Khurelsukh, and the prosperity of both nations.
