TANZANIA Bureau of Standards (TBS) has partnered with the Tanzania Police Force to undertake vehicle inspections through the use of modern digital facilities.
The TBS Director General Dr Athuman Ngenya said in Dar es Salaam at the weekend after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Police Force that the initiative is geared at protecting people’s lives from road fatalities.
“With this partnership, inspection of vehicles will be carried out using modern digital equipment from TBS thus ensuring safety of the automobiles and of the users,” he said.
The partnership will mark an important move from inspecting vehicles manually to using modern digital equipment thus enhancing efficiency and assuring safety to road users.
Dr Ngenya added, TBS will deploy its experts and modern equipment to inspect and measure all vehicles in the country as per the Road Traffic Act 168.
The initiative will not only enhance road safety of passengers and other road users but contribute significantly to addressing unnecessary road fatalities.
He assured the Police Force to continue collaborating to ensure that all vehicles using Tanzania roads meet the required safety standards.
The Director of Operation and Training from Police Force Awadhi Haji marks a new beginning from conducting inspection manually to using digital facilities.
“Formerly we were conducting vehicle inspections manually where some parts could not easily be reached and remained unattended thus endangering passengers and other users,” he said.
Therefore, he said the partnership between the Police Force and TBS will guarantee passengers and other road users’ safety in using the vehicles.
He urged motorists to fulfill the legal responsibility of ensuring that their vehicles are inspected as required to support the government efforts in maintaining road safety in the country.
