Leaders of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSA) have commended Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Kighoma Malima for the successful preparations and coordination of the regional school sports competitions being held in Morogoro.

The games, which began on August 12, 2026, have brought together thousands of students from across East Africa.

The FEASSA leadership delivered the commendation on August 20 during a meeting with Commissioner Malima at his office. The delegation included FEASSA President Justus Kamugisha and Secretary General Ngugi David.

The leaders attributed the smooth running of the competitions to thorough preparations, peace and security, effective coordination by the organising committee and close cooperation between FEASSA and the Morogoro Regional Commissioner’s Office.

Receiving the delegation, Malima said Morogoro was ready to continue providing support to ensure the successful completion of the competitions.

He said the region had numerous opportunities and facilities that, if properly utilised, could create a better environment for hosting and developing sports.

Malima noted that making better use of the region’s available opportunities could also help expand the range of sporting activities taking place in Morogoro, particularly sports that have not yet received sufficient attention despite the region having large areas suitable for sporting activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Yusuph Singo Omari, Director of Sports, Culture and Arts in the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, said hosting the FEASSA competitions had provided participating countries with an opportunity to promote themselves economically.

He said major sporting events could contribute to local economic growth by creating business opportunities for communities, particularly hotel operators and other service providers benefiting from increased visitor numbers.

The FEASSA competitions, which are scheduled to conclude on August 23, 2026, have attracted more than 6,000 students from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and host country Tanzania.

The annual regional school sports event aims to identify, nurture and promote sporting talent among students while strengthening cooperation and interaction among young people across East Africa.

The 2027 edition of the FEASSA competitions is expected to be held in Kigali, Rwanda.
