A presidential candidate for the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) Emmanuel Muga, has refuted claims of bias in the society’s presidential election, as alleged by some individuals.
Muga made this statement during a candidates’ debate for the presidential race, which was conducted by Star TV and involved all six candidates.
He was responding to a question posed by a citizen regarding the disqualification and subsequent reinstatement of fellow candidate Boniface Mwabukusi by court order.

Muga stated that it is inappropriate to involve politics in this election and to exaggerate issues that are not part of its process. He expressed his belief that the election is being conducted fairly, contrary to what some want the public to believe.
“It is essential for people to refrain from mixing politics with this election, as it is being conducted professionally without bias,” Muga said.
“I believe we should leave politics and misconceptions out of this because we are lawyers. Within TLS, there is no bias. Please understand that we have committees we have formed ourselves, and the committee that disqualified Mwabukusi is composed of lawyers, not outsiders. We frequently encounter decisions like this in court,” Muga explained.
“But when you face such decisions, you don’t start complaining and kicking the sand in frustration. Instead, you appeal, believing that what was denied below, you might obtain above. This is a type of justice system.”
“In the TLS election committee, Mwabukusi was given justice and allowed to run, but the appeal committee, which is also composed of lawyers, disqualified him. However, the High Court reinstated him. This is a system we are accustomed to, but the way it has been received and explained outside makes it seem like we are not lawyers. Let’s not blow things out of proportion,” Muga said.
In addition to Muga, other candidates for the TLS presidency include Sweetbert Nkuba, Revocatus Kuuli, Paul Kaunda, Captain Ibrahimu Bendera, and Boniface Mwabukusi.
