The National Campaign “#MtotoNiMboniYangu,” which translates to “A Child is My Treasure,” is set to launch on November 23, 2024.
This initiative, led by the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children in partnership with the Ndoto Ajira Foundation, aims to raise awareness and strengthen protections for children, women, and the elderly against abuse and exploitation.
The campaign’s objective is to foster a society that upholds respect and safety for all, with a particular focus on reducing violence and discrimination against vulnerable groups. According to officials, “#MtotoNiMboniYangu” will address the rising concerns around child protection and gender-based violence, bringing communities together to create a safer, more compassionate environment.
The Ministry noted that a large part of the campaign will focus on public awareness efforts, encouraging communities to actively participate in safeguarding vulnerable individuals. Workshops, public forums, and educational programs are planned to provide guidance on recognizing and reporting abuse, as well as to promote positive social values.
The Minister of Community Development stated that the campaign underscores the government’s commitment to promoting a society free from violence, exploitation, and discrimination. The campaign also aims to reshape societal attitudes and ensure that every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness. To reinforce this message, the campaign will be backed by public service announcements on various media platforms, as well as grassroots activities across Zanzibar.

The Ministry hopes that by joining hands with stakeholders and the public, they will cultivate a generation that values respect and protection for all, especially the most vulnerable.
The “#MtotoNiMboniYangu” campaign represents a significant step in Zanzibar’s efforts to protect human rights and foster an inclusive society. By empowering the community to stand against abuse, the campaign seeks to instill a culture of accountability and care, paving the way for a safer and more just Zanzibar.
