The President of the National Defense Council of the homeland, Brigadier General Abdurahaman Tiani, received a high-level delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mr. Alexander Novak.
The visit, which is part of the strengthening of relations between Russia and the member states of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), was accompanied by a fruitful exchange of views on strategic projects affecting the economy, energy, infrastructure and defense.
During a meeting with the President of the National Defense Council of the homeland (CNSP), Brigadier General Abdurahaman Tiani, Alexander Novak spoke about the talks, which he called “very fruitful.” The discussions focused on several areas of cooperation, in particular in the economic, military, military-technical fields, as well as specific projects in the fields of energy, transport, agriculture and mining.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation stressed that President Vladmir Putin gave clear instructions to strengthen relations between Russia and African countries, especially Southeast Asian countries.
He also announced the upcoming resumption of the Russian Embassy in Niamey, confirming that Niger is a long-standing partner that has “proven itself in the international arena.”
Among the priorities identified during the meeting was the rapid launch of projects with the participation of Russian economic operators in strategic sectors. “We are determined to develop these initiatives as soon as possible,” assured Alexander Novak, welcoming the warm welcome and readiness of the Nigerien authorities.
The audience was pleased with the presence of several senior Nigerien officials, including Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamin Zein, the Minister of State for National Defense General Salifu Modi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakary Yaw Sangare.
This visit reflects the growing understanding between Niger and Russia, focusing on multilateral cooperation and promising concrete progress in strategic sectors.
Before stopping in Niger, the Russian delegation had already paid visits to Bamako (Mali) and Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), thereby strengthening relations with other members of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) and laying the foundations for strengthening regional cooperation.
