President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and fans of legendary musician Boniface Kikumbi Mwanza Mpango, popularly known as King Kikii, following his passing on November 15, 2024.
King Kikii died in the early hours of the morning at the National Hospital, Muhimbili, in Dar es Salaam.
In a statement, President Samia praised King Kikii’s immense contribution to the Tanzanian music industry, saying, “For over 50 years, King Kikii entertained millions of Tanzanians and was a mentor and guide to many in the music industry.

We will remember and honor him for his numerous excellent works, including his famous song ‘Kitambaa Cheupe,’ which continues to be a staple of entertainment across various social settings in the country.”
King Kikii, a pioneer in Tanzanian music, especially in the genre of dansi, will be remembered for his unique musical legacy and his influence on several generations of artists in the country. His passing marks the end of an era in the local music scene, but his work will live on in the hearts of many Tanzanians.
