The Marine Parks and Reserves Authority has thrown its weight behind President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts to boost the country’s tourism industry.
According to Halima Tosiri, the Authority’s Marketing Officer, the initiative aims to attract five million tourists to Tanzania by 2026 by enhancing marine tourism.
Tosiri emphasized the Authority’s commitment to supporting President Suluhu’s vision, urging Tanzanians to explore the nation’s diverse marine reserves, which offer a range of activities such as snorkeling, diving, and the chance to view ancient ruins dating back to the 13th century.
The marine parks feature a variety of ecosystems, including turtle habitats, coral reefs, migratory whales, and a hippo pool. The Authority currently oversees three marine parks and 15 marine reserves across four regions of mainland Tanzania, namely Mafia Island Marine Park, Dar es Salaam Marine Reserves, Naze Bay Marine Reserve in Mtwara, and Tanga Marine Parks.

This year, the Authority participated in the annual Nane Nane agricultural exhibition to educate the public about marine conservation. The exhibition provided a platform to highlight the importance of preserving marine resources and the benefits of conservation efforts, aligning with the broader national tourism goals set by President Suluhu.
The Authority’s engagement in these educational activities underscores its pivotal role in enhancing public awareness and involvement in marine conservation, which is essential for the success of Tanzania’s tourism vision.
