Parents and guardians, especially mothers, have been urged to support and encourage their children to join the National Service (JKT) instead of discouraging them.
The call was made by Lieutenant Colonel Cleofar Nazar, the Acting Director of Social Welfare at JKT, who emphasized the important role parents play in shaping their children’s decisions.
Speaking on March 5, 2025, Nazar pointed out that mothers, in particular, spend a lot of time with their children and have the greatest influence over them. He encouraged them to guide young people toward embracing patriotism and national service, as a country thrives when its citizens are dedicated to its growth and protection.
“I urge my fellow parents, especially mothers, to encourage their children instead of holding them back. We are the ones closest to them, and our words have power. Let’s remind them that this country is built by its people, and they are part of that foundation. A patriotic citizen loves their country and is always ready to protect it,” said Nazar.
He further encouraged young people, especially those completing secondary school, to consider enrolling in JKT under the mandatory program. He also extended an invitation to graduates from vocational training centers, colleges, and universities to join voluntarily.

JKT plays a significant role in shaping young people by instilling discipline, providing essential skills, and preparing them for future careers. Over the years, the program has produced responsible and hardworking individuals who have gone on to contribute in various fields, including security, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
The government continues to emphasize the importance of national service in fostering unity, resilience, and patriotism among young people. With ongoing efforts to strengthen youth development programs, authorities believe that JKT remains a valuable platform for preparing the next generation to take on leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress.
