A young resident of Goba in Dar es Salaam, Maliki Hashimu has been discharged from the National Hospital Muhimbili (MNH) following a series of extensive medical procedures to address severe neck injuries.
The injuries, inflicted by a sharp object, had severely compromised his airway, leading to life-threatening complications, including difficulty breathing, speaking, and substantial blood loss.
Upon his admission to MNH on July 15, Maliki’s condition was deemed critical. Dr. Rachel Mhavile, Director of Surgical Services at the hospital, provided a detailed update on Maliki’s recovery. She noted that the boy’s condition has significantly improved, allowing him to return home to resume his education and daily life. The medical team at MNH will continue to monitor his progress closely to ensure his continued recovery.

He also expressed appreciation to the Tanzanian community and the media for their support and coverage of the incident.
Dr. Juma Mfinanga, a Specialist in Emergency Medicine at MNH, highlighted the immediate actions taken upon Maliki’s arrival. The medical team quickly stabilized his condition, focusing on restoring his airway and halting the severe bleeding. A specialized surgical team, including Dr. Aslam Nkya, an ENT Surgeon, was assembled to address the complex nature of Maliki’s injuries.
