The Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) announced today opportunities for Tanzanian youth with secondary school to college degrees to enlist in the military.
Colonel Gaudentius Ilonda, TPDF Spokesperson and Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, told a press briefing in Dodoma on April 30, 2025.
According to Colonel Ilonda, qualified candidates must be Tanzanian nationals with a valid national identification card, be in good physical and mental health, be disciplined and of good character, and have no criminal or incarceration history. Along with legitimate academic and professional credentials, applicants must also provide an original birth certificate.
In addition, candidates must not have served in the Police Force, Prisons Service, Training Institutes, or the Anti-Smuggling Unit. They must have completed National Service (JKT) training either through voluntary enlistment or mandatory service, and have been awarded a certificate upon completion.
He further noted the age limits for applicants: those with Ordinary Level (Form IV) and Advanced Level (Form VI) education must be no older than 24 years; those with diploma qualifications must not exceed 26 years; and those with higher education (degree or above) must be 27 years old or younger.
Applications must be handwritten and submitted to the Defence Headquarters in Dodoma

Kanali Ilonda amesema sifa za mwombaji ni lazima awe raia wa Tanzania mwenye kitambulisho cha Taifa, awe na afya nzuri na timamu, mwenye tabia na nidhamu nzuri, hajapatikana na hatia ya makosa ya jinai mahakamani na kufungwa, cheti halisi cha kuzaliwa na vyeti vya shule na taaluma.
Aidha, awe hajatumikia Jeshi la Polisi, Magereza, Chuo cha Mafunzo au Kikosi cha Kuzuia Magendo, amehitimu Mafunzo ya Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa JKT kwa mkataba wa kujitolea au mujibu wa sheria na kutunukiwa cheti.
