THE Police Force has heightened security across the country for the Easter festivities. Police Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP), David Misime, said patrols and surveillance have been enhanced on people’s favourite posts and churches to ensure calm and tranquility are maintained and traffic accidents are reduced.
SACP Misime who spoke to journalists in Dar es Salam this week cautioned people to be cautious of online fraudsters and avoid falling victims to scams.
According to the police, the online fraudsters have been taking advantages of the festive season to deceive people that they offer loans so as to make them fall into their traps and lose their fortunes.
“The police force continues to strengthen efforts to ensure that churches and social places are safe to ensure peaceful celebrations,” said SACPP Misime.
He added that the Easter celebrations are preceded by mass gatherings of believers who participate in services held during the daytime and nighttime, from Thursday to Easter Monday, and argued diligent celebrations.
He highlighted that the police force is prepared to conduct patrols in streets and major roads to prevent any crimes or peace disruption. In addition, he mentioned that there will be police patrols on all major roads to prevent road accidents.
The patrols will also monitor and take action against those who violate road safety regulations, such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and overloading vehicles with passengers.
Moreover, he called upon religious leaders conducting services during the “Holy Week” to ensure they communicate with the police authorities in their respective areas without hesitation, in order to collaborate in strengthening security throughout the entire period.
Every year, Christians commemorate the Easter holiday to remember the suffering, death, and resurrection of their Lord Jesus. This has become a tradition in many countries around the world, including Tanzania.
