Tanzania’s parliament has passed a motion that the government should consider purchasing a new plane that will specifically serve top national leaders.
Speaking in parliament, the Chairperson of the Constitution and Legal Affairs Committee, Mr Joseph Mhagama, said the aim of the decision is due to the failure of the Tanzania Government Flight Agency (TGFA) to serve national leaders when they have travel schedules at the same time.
According to Mhagama, his committee has found that there are currently three planes serving government officials, with one plane serving the President, the other two planes serving the Vice President, the President of Zanzibar, the Prime Minister, the First and Second Vice Presidents of Zanzibar, and other national leaders.
“This situation causes the agency to not carry out their responsibility efficiently. Therefore, the parliament decided that the government sees the importance of purchasing another aircraft to improve air transport services for senior national leaders,” he said.
Currently, Tanzania has a total of 14 aircraft, of which 11 are passenger and three serve national leaders
