Pope Francis continues to receive medical care at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital as his health shows gradual signs of improvement.
Despite the seriousness of his condition, the Vatican has reassured the public that he remains stable and has even resumed some of his responsibilities.
A statement from the Vatican on Monday confirmed that the 88-year-old pontiff had a restful night, and his condition, while still critical, is slightly improving. Medical tests have shown positive signs, and his mild kidney concerns are not alarming. Oxygen therapy is ongoing, but doctors have slightly reduced the levels.
Although he is under strict medical supervision, Pope Francis has not allowed his health struggles to prevent him from fulfilling some of his pastoral duties. He received the Eucharist in the morning and later spent part of the afternoon attending to Vatican matters. In the evening, he made a phone call to the parish priest in Gaza, continuing his long-standing commitment to supporting the region during its ongoing challenges.
Earlier in the day, he also held discussions with senior Church officials, approving new decrees related to sainthood and scheduling a future consistory for upcoming canonizations. His ability to remain involved, even while in the hospital, highlights his dedication to the Church.
