Tanzania’s Minister of Home Affairs, Hamad Masauni, has called on security forces to be fully prepared to ensure the country’s peace and stability during these crucial periods.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of a leadership seminar for senior security officials held in Kilimanjaro, Masauni emphasized the importance of security agencies in shaping the image of the government and maintaining public trust. He reiterated that these agencies are critical in guaranteeing a secure electoral process, urging them to adopt the “4R” approach—readiness, resilience, response, and recovery—in their preparations.
“Our security agencies must be prepared to protect the integrity of the elections. They are the face of the government, and it is crucial that they operate with transparency, professionalism, and a strong commitment to public safety,” said Masauni.
He further instructed the security offices to remain open to the public, encouraging citizens to report grievances and concerns freely. This move, he noted, is essential in ensuring transparency and accountability as the nation heads into the election season.
Masauni also stressed the importance of national unity and peace during the electoral period, highlighting that security agencies play a pivotal role in preventing unrest and ensuring the elections proceed smoothly.
This address comes as part of broader efforts by the Tanzanian government to enhance security across the country. Notably, initiatives such as the installation of 6,500 surveillance cameras in key cities, including Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Arusha, and Mwanza, form part of the government’s strategy to boost urban security ahead of the elections.
As the elections draw closer, all eyes will be on the readiness of the security forces and their ability to manage the challenges that come with maintaining peace during a politically sensitive time.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, under Masauni’s leadership, continues to underscore the need for vigilance, transparency, and collaboration with citizens to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
