Amid rising anticipation for Tanzania’s local government elections set for November 27, Amos Makalla, Secretary for Ideology, Publicity, and Training in the National Executive Council (NEC), has urged election supervisors to ensure a level playing field for all parties fielding candidates.
Speaking to party members and leaders in Temeke, Dar es Salaam, Makalla called on the Office of the President, Regional Administration, and Local Government (TAMISEMI) to uphold fair conduct for each political group competing, including CCM and its opposition.
Makalla addressed concerns about candidate objections filed by multiple parties, underscoring that CCM has also experienced challenges and refuting claims from opposition groups alleging that only their candidates are affected. “We are ready to compete fairly in this election,” Makalla stated, emphasizing the importance of an unbiased process that allows all parties to participate equally.
Makalla’s remarks have come at a time when political tension is rising across Tanzania. Allegations of bias have fueled debates over transparency, as opposition voices suggest their candidates face more scrutiny than CCM candidates. Makalla, however, argued that such claims mislead the public, urging stakeholders and observers to understand that CCM candidates have similarly been challenged.
“We do not seek special treatment. We are fully prepared to compete based on our merit and expect TAMISEMI to carry out its duty impartially,” he continued. According to Makalla, the party’s confidence in securing victory is rooted in its preparation, commitment, and public support. He stated that CCM’s readiness reflects its focus on fair competition rather than relying on favoritism.

He reiterated CCM’s belief that the election should be both free and fair, stressing the need for TAMISEMI’s fair oversight throughout the electoral process. Local elections serve as a foundation for community governance and are an essential aspect of Tanzania’s political landscape, making this call for impartiality a central topic of discussion.
With the elections approaching, calls for transparency and accountability have heightened, raising expectations for how TAMISEMI will navigate the critical aspects of fairness and credibility. Observers are closely monitoring the developments as candidates from various parties gear up for the elections.
Makalla’s comments signal the broader political atmosphere and CCM’s approach to the elections, underscoring the high stakes in this local contest and setting the tone for expectations as November 27 draws near.
