The Regional Commissioner of Dar Es Salaam, Albert Chalamila, has strongly condemned the mistreatment of a woman believed to be a resident of Yombo, stating that the incident was unlawful and against Tanzanian ethics.
Chalamila said the woman is currently in a safe place at one of the regional centers, where she is receiving counseling to help her grow in her daily life.
The remarks come Five days after photos circulated on social media showing five youths assaulting and abusing the woman, accusing her of being seen with another person’s husband and demanding an apology from the person they referred to as “Officer.”
“The woman is in safe hands, she is not dead, as the regional commissioner, I can confirm that she is safe and is in one of our centers, and the woman must be safe, heal psychologically, be calmed down properly, and be given counseling education that will help her grow in her daily life,” Chalamila said.

The regional commissioner’s statement has been met with growing calls from various human rights advocates for swift action to be taken against those involved in the incident. They have also urged President Samia Suluhu Hassan to form a commission to investigate all incidents involving security personnel.
Chalamila emphasized that the government strongly condemns the treatment the woman received, as it is against the country’s laws and the Tanzanian culture.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the treatment of vulnerable individuals by security forces, and the regional commissioner’s pledge to support the woman and ensure her safety has been welcomed by the community.
