Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, who shot at Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, had searched online for more information about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy several days before the attack, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified in a congressional hearing.
Wray said computer forensic analysis showed that among other things, Crooks was interested in how Lee Harvey Oswald, who shot Kennedy in Dallas in November 1963, was positioned relative to the president.

“On July 6, he accessed Google and searched ‘How far was Oswald from Kennedy?'” Wray told members of the congressional committee. “That search is certainly of great significance in terms of his mental state.”
“It appears he registered for the rally in Butler on the same day,” the FBI chief added.
Wray also mentioned that Crooks used a drone to surveil the rally area approximately two hours before Trump took the stage. The drone was airborne for 11 minutes.
The drone and its remote were found in the attacker’s car along with two explosive devices. Another bomb was discovered at Crooks’ residence, Wray added.
The FBI Director stated there is currently no evidence suggesting Crooks had accomplices and that he appeared to have acted alone in the crime.
