Farmers from Iringa and Njombe regions have expressed their gratitude to the government for providing training on quality maize production.
This initiative has enabled them to sell their maize to the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) without any issues. The improved quality of their maize ensures it is accepted at NFRA collection points.
Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Hussein Omar, commended the farmers for their high-quality maize and instructed NFRA to continue offering training on maize production and storage. He emphasized that farmers should receive payment within five days of selling their maize to NFRA. The increase in maize production is attributed to the government’s fertilizer subsidies.
Dr. Omar began his inspection tour on August 29, 2024, covering the Arusha and Manyara regions, and later Iringa and Njombe on August 30 and 31, 2024.

This tour is part of a broader review of NFRA’s maize purchasing operations, following directives from President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
He directed NFRA to coordinate with all clients who have purchased maize, ensuring space for farmers’ maize. Dr. Omar also informed the farmers that the government is buying maize at 700 shillings per kilogram to help them sell their produce profitably.
Dr. Omar’s tour aims to inspect NFRA maize collection centers and address any challenges faced at these sites.
