Tanzania’s President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, embarked on a crucial state visit to China from September 2 to 6, 2024, aimed at enhancing the longstanding and strategic partnership between Tanzania and China.
This visit coincides with her participation in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, a pivotal summit that gathers African leaders to deliberate on key issues like infrastructure development, industrialization, and peace and security across the continent.
During her visit, President Samia will hold high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, focusing on deepening the historic relationship that has flourished between the two nations for over six decades. A significant part of her visit involves a trilateral meeting with President Xi and Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema.
The leaders are expected to oversee the signing of a landmark agreement aimed at revitalizing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA), a project that has symbolized Sino-African cooperation since its inception. This agreement is anticipated to breathe new life into TAZARA, boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.
