A devastating accident late on December 17, 2014, has left the nation in mourning. Fourteen lives were tragically lost, and eight others sustained injuries in a collision along the busy Morogoro-Dar es Salaam highway near Mikese.
The accident involved a cargo truck traveling from Dar es Salaam and a Coaster bus heading from Morogoro to Dar es Salaam.
Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Malima arrived at the Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital, where the injured victims are receiving treatment. Speaking with medical staff, he expressed his deep condolences to the families of the deceased and reassured survivors of the government’s commitment to support them during this difficult time.
Dr. Nkungu Daniel, Chief Medical Officer at the hospital, confirmed that 14 bodies had been received—eight men and six women. He also reported that the injured are being cared for, with doctors working tirelessly to stabilize their conditions.
“We are doing everything possible to provide the best care for the injured. It is heartbreaking to see families torn apart by such a tragedy,” Dr. Daniel said.
The cause of the collision remains unclear, but authorities are working to uncover what led to this heartbreaking incident. Efforts to reach the Morogoro Regional Police Commander for an official statement are ongoing.

The scene at the hospital was emotional, as grieving families gathered to identify their loved ones. Some of the injured, though in pain, expressed gratitude for the swift response of emergency services.
One survivor, still shaken, described the moments leading up to the crash. “It all happened so fast. The impact was terrifying, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it,” they recounted.
The accident highlights the urgent need for improved road safety measures in Tanzania. Highways like the Morogoro-Dar es Salaam route are critical lifelines for trade and travel, but they are also scenes of frequent accidents. Officials and advocacy groups have called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, better road infrastructure, and increased public awareness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
