President Samia Suluhu Samia has ordered the extension of rescue operations by 24 hours following the collapse of a building in Kariakoo, which has claimed several lives and left many trapped under the rubble.
Her directive came as the initial 72-hour rescue period approached its conclusion.
During a phone conversation with Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, the President expressed optimism about the possibility of finding more survivors. “I have faith in God’s miracles. Extend the operation for another 24 hours to fight for those we believe are still alive,” she instructed.
The collapse of the multi-story building has been a harrowing event, mobilizing extensive national resources. Rescue teams, including military personnel, firefighters, and volunteers, have been working relentlessly, retrieving both survivors and victims from the wreckage.
President Samia commended their dedication and commitment, stating, “Our rescue teams and volunteers have shown remarkable patriotism and humanity.
