President Samia Suluhu Hassan has extended heartfelt condolences to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) following the tragic death of Bishop Chediel Elinaza Sendoro of Mwanga Diocese.
The accident occurred on September 9, 2024, when his vehicle collided with a truck at the Himo-Mwanga junction, Kilimanjaro Region.
Bishop Sendoro, remembered as a dedicated servant of the church, passed away instantly in the head-on collision, while driving on his way back from a pastoral visit. The collision took place around 1:30 a.m., and initial reports indicate that the bishop’s vehicle collided with a Scania truck as he attempted to overtake another vehicle.
The accident sent shockwaves across the region, with congregants and fellow church leaders expressing grief over the loss of a beloved leader. Bishop Sendoro had been serving as the first bishop of the Mwanga Diocese since 2016 after the diocese was formed following the division of the larger Pare Diocese.
