Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, has expressed his willingness to take responsibility, stating that his position is not more valuable than human lives, should it be proven that he did not act adequately in the rescue efforts following the Kariakoo building collapse.
“My team and I feel that we have done our best up to this point, and we continue with the rescue efforts. After the building collapsed, there were still individuals communicating with us from inside, which compelled us to use strategic measures rather than force, which could have led to the loss of more lives,” Chalamila stated.
“I appeal to the Prime Minister since you have your mechanisms and as the process is still ongoing if it is determined that I or my team failed in any way, I am ready to resign. My position is not more valuable than human lives. I say this because when criticisms arise, leaders must take accountability,” he added.
